GST registration is the gateway to operating a fully compliant business in India. Once you have a GSTIN, you can legally charge GST on your invoices, claim input tax credit on your purchases, sell on e-commerce marketplaces, and trade across state lines. For many businesses it isn't optional – crossing the turnover threshold, or simply selling online or inter-state, makes registration mandatory.

We make the process painless: we prepare your application, guide you through Aadhaar authentication, deal with the GST portal, and hand you a registration certificate – then help you stay compliant with your returns.

Who Needs GST Registration?

You must register for GST if any of the following applies to your business:

  • Inter-state supply of goods – mandatory regardless of turnover.

  • E-commerce sellers and operators (Amazon, Flipkart, your own online store).

  • Casual and non-resident taxable persons, and anyone liable under reverse charge.

The entire registration is online on the GST portal through Form REG-01. Here's how we do it for you:

  • Step 1 – Part A of REG-01: We submit your PAN, mobile and email to generate a Temporary Reference Number (TRN).

  • Step 2 – Part B of REG-01: We complete business details, HSN/SAC codes, promoters, bank details and upload your documents.

  • Step 3 – Aadhaar authentication: The signatory and a promoter complete Aadhaar OTP authentication (or biometric verification at a GST Suvidha Kendra, if flagged).

  • Step 4 – ARN & verification: An Application Reference Number (ARN) is generated and the application is processed by the system or officer.

  • Step 5 – GSTIN & certificate: On approval, your GSTIN is allotted and the GST registration certificate (REG-06) is available to download.

Typical timeline: 3 working days under the simplified scheme / for low-risk applicants, about 7 working days in a normal case, and up to 30 working days where physical verification is required.

Latest GST Registration Update (Effective 1 November 2025)

The GST portal now offers a faster, more transparent registration experience. Key changes currently in effect:

  • 3-day simplified scheme (Rule 14A): applicants whose monthly B2B output tax is ₹2.5 lakh or less can opt in and get registration within 3 working days after Aadhaar authentication.
  • Auto-approval (Rule 9A): low-risk applications flagged by the system's risk analytics can be approved electronically within 3 working days.
  • Aadhaar authentication is central: the ARN is generated only after successful Aadhaar OTP or biometric authentication and document verification.
  • Cleaner document list: a simple electricity bill or property-tax receipt is accepted as office proof; officers follow a strict, limited document list.

Why choose Startup Advisory for GST registration

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

GST registration is the process of enrolling a business under the Goods and Services Tax and obtaining a 15-digit GSTIN. Once registered, a business can legally collect GST on its sales, claim input tax credit on its purchases, and file GST returns.

In normal states, GST registration is mandatory once aggregate turnover exceeds ₹40 lakh for suppliers of goods and ₹20 lakh for suppliers of services. In special category states the limits are ₹20 lakh for goods and ₹10 lakh for services. Turnover is calculated PAN-wide across India.

Registration is mandatory irrespective of turnover for businesses making inter-state supply of goods, e-commerce sellers and operators, casual taxable persons, non-resident taxable persons, persons liable under reverse charge, input service distributors, and those required to deduct TDS or collect TCS.

Under the simplified scheme (Rule 14A, effective 1 November 2025) and for low-risk applicants flagged by the system, GST registration can be granted within 3 working days after Aadhaar authentication. A normal application with Aadhaar authentication is usually approved within 7 working days, and up to 30 working days where physical or document verification is required.

Aadhaar authentication is now central to GST registration. The Application Reference Number (ARN) is generated only after successful Aadhaar authentication – by OTP, or by biometric authentication and original-document verification at a GST Suvidha Kendra where the application is flagged for it.

From 1 November 2025, Rule 14A offers an optional simplified route where applicants whose monthly output tax on B2B supplies is ₹2.5 lakh or less can opt in within Form REG-01 and, after Aadhaar authentication, receive registration electronically within 3 working days.

The composition scheme lets small businesses with turnover up to ₹1.5 crore (₹75 lakh in some states) pay GST at a low fixed rate with simpler returns, and service providers up to ₹50 lakh can pay at 6%. Composition dealers cannot claim input tax credit or make inter-state sales.

No. The government does not charge a fee for GST registration. You only pay a professional fee for expert preparation and filing. Startup Advisory works on transparent, fixed fees – call 9311972982 for an exact quote.

For a proprietor you typically need PAN and Aadhaar of the proprietor, a photo, proof of the place of business (electricity bill, property-tax receipt or rent agreement with NOC), and a cancelled cheque or bank statement. Companies, LLPs and firms also need their incorporation or registration document and an authorisation for the signatory.

Yes. You can register using a residential or home-office address. You provide ownership proof such as an electricity bill or property-tax receipt, or a rent agreement with a no-objection certificate if the premises are rented.

Yes. GST is state-specific, so you need a separate registration for each state from which you make taxable supplies. We handle multi-state registrations for businesses operating across India.

Yes. One PAN can hold multiple GSTINs – one for each state you operate in, and you may also take separate registrations for distinct business verticals or places of business within the same state.

A GSTIN is a 15-character identifier: the first two digits are your state code, the next ten are your PAN, the thirteenth shows the number of registrations on that PAN, the fourteenth is a default letter, and the last is a checksum.

Yes. A sole proprietor registers for GST under their own PAN. It is the simplest GST registration and is common for freelancers, small traders and online sellers.

Freelancers and online service providers must register once turnover crosses ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh in special-category states), and immediately – regardless of turnover – if they supply services inter-state or through an e-commerce operator. Many register voluntarily to claim input tax credit and work with larger clients.

Yes. A non-resident taxable person or foreign company supplying in India registers in Form REG-09, at least five days before starting business, with an advance deposit of estimated tax. We handle the process end to end.

A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is mandatory for companies and LLPs. Proprietors, partnerships and individuals can instead verify the application using EVC (an Aadhaar-linked OTP), so no DSC is needed.

HSN codes classify goods and SAC codes classify services for GST. You declare your main HSN or SAC at registration so the correct tax rates apply. We make sure your codes are accurate, which matters even more after the GST 2.0 rate changes.

Yes. You can apply without a bank account and add your bank details after the GSTIN is granted – within 30 days of registration or before filing your first return, whichever is earlier.

Operating without registration when you are liable attracts a penalty of ₹10,000 or the amount of tax due, whichever is higher, along with payment of the tax owed. You also cannot collect GST or claim input tax credit until you register.

A regular GST registration has no expiry – it stays valid until you surrender it or the department cancels it. Only casual and non-resident registrations are time-bound, usually up to 90 days and extendable.

Once registered, display your GSTIN at your place of business, issue GST-compliant tax invoices, charge the correct rate, file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B on time, and adopt e-invoicing if your turnover requires it. We can manage all of this for you.

Yes. Most details can be amended through Form REG-14. Core changes such as legal name, principal place of business or addition of partners or directors need officer approval, while non-core fields are updated automatically.

You can apply for cancellation in Form REG-16 if you close the business, fall below the threshold or restructure. After cancellation a final return in Form GSTR-10 must be filed within three months. We handle the cancellation and the final return.

Once your application is submitted you receive an ARN (Application Reference Number), which you can use on the GST portal's Track Application Status page to follow your application until the GSTIN is issued.
